Master Chess Computers
Often misunderstood and misrepresented, the title of Master and its superior grades has strict, objective and measurable criteria for all candidates aspiring to its award. Only a small fraction of the world's chess-playing population satisfy them.
By these criteria the electronic chess computer models in the Master category are deserving of the title and representative of the very strongest commercially available. While configurable to provide chances for all, unleashed they extend from the equivalent of National Master standard through to a rarefied realm north of Super Grandmaster territory inhabitable only by machines.
Rationally few need such strength but emotionally many want it. The program sophistication of the top contemporary chess machines in certain ways surpasses that of Deep Blue over 20 years ago giving pause perhaps to ponder just where we are taking artificial intelligence—or it is taking us.
